A number of people have asked for more information on category
theory. I thought I'd refer you all to a much neglected work by one
of Rosen's students, A.H. Louie: "Categorical System Theory" in
"Theoretical Biology and Complexity" (R. Rosen, ed.) Academic
Press,1985.

One reason I do this because I would like to see if anyone out there
is deep enough into this sort of math to comment on it. To my
uneducated eyes it seems like a really thourough, careful work.
Among other things, it covers Rashevsky's "organismic sets" and
Miller's theory of living systems. He also spells out in detail the
manner in which differential equations of dynamics can be
represented in terms of mappings. those looking for a way to go
forward may find this stimulating.
