Could anybody recommend me some works on general theory of
agent-based technology? I would like to see considerations like:

- agents as extensions of personality architecture; memory devices as
functional implants; consistent interpretations of biological and
exosomatic functionality
- relation to traditional tools and accessories
(is a mousetrap an agent that can execute limited range of behavior
autonomously on your behalf? Or it's logic is an agent that waited
to be liberated from the body of the mousetrap?)
- what makes software agents different from agents that are confined
to hardware (all previous human tools + downloaded(=learned)/
delegated skills) in terms of implications for the architectures of
economic and social systems, etc.
- etc.

I am planning an article on software agents and ACF (Automated
Collaborative Filtering) for the Extropy magazine
<http://www.primenet.com/~maxmore/extropy.htm> and would like to
do my homework well.

I would appreciate any references, ideas, suggestions of collaboration,
etc.
