1999 International Conference on Virtual Worlds and Simulation - VWSIM
99 -

Over the last several years, new advances have been made in creating
collaborative virtual places, populated by both intelligent agents and
human players. These virtual worlds make use of simulations in several
interesting ways: to create the collaborative environment or virtual
world, to create objects with behaviors appropriate to the virtual
world, or to create intelligent agents which behave and interact with
human players in the virtual world. New applications of these
technologies are appearing in fields as diverse as business,
manufacturing and design, medicine, education and training. This
conference, with a stimulating first meeting in 1998, will provide a
forum for experts concerned with different fields of application to
exchange new ideas for advancing the use of virtual worlds and for
deepening the role of simulation in this area.

Topic areas include
- Avatar Development
- Computer-mediated Collaboration and Distributed Work in VWs
- Cyber-robots and Embodied Agents
- Educational simulations within VWs
- Graphical and Text-based VWs
- Human Language Technologies within Virtual Worlds
- Incorporating Simulation into Languages for Building VWs
- Instrumentation and Evaluation of Virtual Worlds
- Integration of MUVEs and the Web
- Interoperability among Virtual Worlds - VWs -
- Learning Spaces - Use of Virtual Worlds in Education
- Structuring the Information in Virtual Worlds
- Supporting Virtual Communities of Interest
- Tool Integration inside of Virtual Worlds

Suggest additional topics, chair a session, or exhibit your software at
this conference by contacting the co-chairs -preferably via e-mail- by
June 1, 1998.
