Biographical sketch

Yuri Demchenko is an Associate Professor in Department of Computer Aided
Design at Kiev Polytechnic Institute (KPI). He conducts a number of
educational courses united by general direction on Internet/intranet
Networking and Information Technologies and Services. He manages
Departmental WWW Server and is involved in development of it=92s
information resources. Together with his young team he designed a number
of Web servers devoted to cultural and educational issues in Ukraine,
WWW Resources in CIS, Internet Business applications. Particularly, he
has
initiated special WWW server on Historical and Cultural Heritage of
Ukraine.=20

Yu.Demchenko has been active in Internet infrastructure development for
Academic and Research community in Ukraine since 1992. At this period he
took part in forming Program of State Committee for Science and
Technologies of Ukraine on development of Ukrainian Academic and
Research Network, coordinated ISF-Ukraine Telecommunication Program and
directed design of KPI Campus Computer Network. His current researches
deal with development of new Instructional Methodology of Education in
Global Information Environment and development of Open Information
Society elements in Ukraine.=20

Last time he is working on Information Society theory and, particularly,
consciousness transformation in networked environment. He took part in
Cantigny Conference "The Information Revolution: Impact on the
Foundation of National Power", Chicago, September 23-25, 1997.

Main results of this initiative activity were presented at a number of
local and international conferences (i.e., JENC8, Edinburg, Scotland,
12-15 May 1997; INET=9297, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, June 24-27, 1997;
ICTE=9297, Oslo, August 10-13, 1997).

He prepares now a number of educational course on European Information
Society development in the frame of European Studies TACIS CEC Program.

Yu.Demchenko graduated from KPI in 1981 receiving diploma in
Instrumentation and Measurement. In 1989 he has received Cand. of Sc.
(Techn.) degree.=20
