Connection between USA and the PCP server is restored!

For more than a week the "Global One"connection between the Belgian
academic network (Belnet) and America has been seriously disturbed.
Americans had great difficulties accessing the PCP site:
http://pespmc1.vub.ac.be/ and I received many complaints about the server
being unreachable. Even email messages sent between us and the US often did
not come through. Our connections with Europe and the rest of the world
were normal, though. Yesterday evening the line has been tested and
apparently repaired, since the traffic on our server is back to normal
(almost 7000 hits a day, up from 3500 hits during the period of
disturbance).

If you had any difficult reaching PCP web during that time, please try
again. This time eveything should move smoothly again. Please let me know
if there still are problems.

During that period I also sent through the PCP newsletter for March-April,
1997, which may not have reached everyone. In case you did not receive it,
please check it out at:

In the future we hope to avoid such problems by installing a mirror server
for Principia Cybernetica Web in the US. It would need some 40 MB of space
for about 1300 files, and could expect some 4- to 5000 hits per day.
Ideally, an automatic mechanism would be installed to regularly check for
new or modified files on the original server, and to copy them to the
mirror server, so that both servers would always be up-to-date. Suggestions
or proposals for help in this respect are very welcome!
