Dear Colleagues,
I am sending you below the tentative program for the sessions of our
Working Group on Sociocybernetics (WG01) at the 14th World Congress of
Sociology (Montreal, July 26 - August 1, 1998). If you are interested to
deliver a paper in one of our sessions, please let me know.
In that case, you should:
1) become a member of WG01 (free of charge; all that is needed for you is
to fill out and return a membership form and a questionnaire), and:
2) preferably also of the ISA ($200 per FOUR years, of which you anyhow
save $100 on the reduced World Congress registration fee for ISA members).
If you are indeed interested to deliver a paper in one of the sessions
mentioned below:
1) I will send you the WG01 and ISA membership forms, our questionnaire,
and an information sheet about WG01 and the ISA;
2) and I will need the title of your paper, plus a tentative 250-word
abstract, and - at a later stage - also a 1000-word abridged paper.
Our longstanding group, rejuvenated since 1995, has conceivably become
the most important and active international forum for applications
of cybernetics and General Systems Theory to the social sciences. A
volume with a selection of papers form our successful 1996 conference in
Bucharest, which is available for WG01 members for only $30 plus postage,
will be published in September (see other email).
Looking forward to hearing from you, with best wishes,
Felix Geyer
Secretary, WG01

TENTATIVE PROGRAM WG01
WORKING GROUP 1: SOCIOCYBERNETICS AND SOCIAL SYSTEMS
PLEASE NOTE:
1) Those interested to possibly deliver a paper in one of the following
sessions can obtain the text of the different Calls for Papers by
writing to the session coordinator, Felix Geyer - preferably by email
(geyer@siswo.uva.nl), otherwise by fax (31 20 622 9430) or snailmail
(SISWO, Plantage Muidergracht 4, 1018 TV Amsterdam, The Netherlands).
Those interested in a specific session can also contact the session
organizer concerned directly.
2) Obviously, the following 19 session proposals - for the time being
in alfabetical order of session organizer - are tentative at this
stage, since we can in principle only have 9 sessions, plus three
joint ones; whether or not a session will materialize will also
depend on your response. Some of the following proposed sessions
will therefore be either combined, or cancelled at a later stage. The
three joint sessions, however, are definitive.
3) For those planning to deliver a paper: please give a tentative title,
and indicate, in declining order of preference, three sessions in
which you would most prefer to deliver your paper.
4) To prevent misunderstanding among those who received our Newsletter #3,
the sessions do not follow anymore the numbering of that Newsletter.
