Internet Conference on:
CYBERNETICS AND THE HUMANITIES

The above Internet conference is designed to run for approx. 3 months
starting Feb. 1997. A 'speaker' must guarantee to log on to the conference
site at least 3 times a week in order to reply to comments, questions and
analyses posted by conference 'attendees'.
There will be a total of 10 speakers for the conference. Speakers will be
responisble for particular sub-themes in the conference, and will be
asked to submit short papers on their chosen sub-theme in order to
orientate discussion.
The 5 sub-themes are:
1] The critical paradigm and the phenomenon of control
2] Creation and improvisation -- cybernetic approaches
3] Problems of system environment in artistic production and reception
4] Engendering feedback -- fostering active audiences for the media
5] The place of cybernetics in thinking about the Humanities -- a
question of resolution level?
All those interested in questions of how cybernetics and systems theory
relate to creativity, the practice of philosophy, critical endeavours
(literary theory, musical analysis, etc.), reception of artistic
productions, mass media effects. etc. are encouraged to apply.

"MCB University Press Conferencing will be wholly subject to peer review
at all stages, and will merit academic and professional credit because of
the guarantee of quality achieved by the traditional peer review
procedures. All substantial participation in an MCB University Press
Internet Conference will gain citation in the Proceedings, and papers may
be attached to conference comments and discussions. Such papers will be
subject to the traditional review procedures and may subsequently be
published in full in the journal."
Deadline for those interested in being a speaker at the Conference:
20th of October

statement concerning your interest in the areas covered by this
conference. I will then send you more information.
Candidates will be informed of their acceptance or not by December 1st
