Besides my personal interest in Systems Theory and the theory of complex
systems, my major work is the design and use of business simulations. My
company, the next step, focuses on the use of simulations in consulting and
education projects. Both, design and application of simulations, requires a
profound understanding of the system being modeled. Over time we have
accumulated some know how in this area, especially on how people experience
complex and interconnected environments.
I am also working on my Ph.D. (University of St. Gall) where I try to work
out how simulations can help to facilitate processes of organizational
transformation. I basically compare the features of simulations with the
requirements of organizational change processes and show where and how they
match. A government-owned company that has been privatized and where we
designed a simulation to introduce the topic 'financial leadership' serves
as a case for the use of simulations in this context.
