Unfortunately "objective" and subjective have sort of changed places
over history, and also in psychiatry , but the noumenon phenomena,
realism mental construction debate is very old. A nice contemporary
treatment is found in Roy Bhaskar's (1978) "A Realist Theory of Science"
London, Harvester Whesatsheaf.ISBN 0-85527-701-7. Which exhibits the
weaknesses of empiricism and advocates a kind of "transcendental
realism" ate least for the physical sciences.
