Re: electing people with using cybernetic ideas

Jeff Peaux enters the discussion about my proposal to
cybernetically simulate, and possibly affect, the outcome of the
Nov. 1995 real-world election for Mayor of Miami Beach. in
comment 1, he is worried that "a negative public perception
towards cybernetica" might develop. His comments, I feel, are
naive om two points of view: First, cyetics (as the PCP
site means it) is ALMOST NON-EXISTEon the public's radar and
perception screen. It has been practically buried in the United
States since the late 40's when Wiener, Sshannon et al introduced
the field and the wonderful Macy Foundation Conferences started.
Perhaps getting on the public's perception as aseful tool
for understandingublic policy and politics (see Cyberocracy
material developed by a researcher at RAND Corporation) might get
some of us ivory tower idealists to get deeply involved in putting
a little cybernetic science and philosophy could fix a political
system that Sen. Bill Bradley rightly feels is "broken." Wiener
himself wrote a popular rendition of his seminal "Cybernetics"
text called "Cybernetics and Society: The Human Use of Human Beings."
Scientists need to get more involved with society, politics, and
business, so as to avoid creating monsters like nuclear weapons,
which, like the brooms in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," have too
often gotten out of our control. Is there anyone out there on
the PRNCYB-L group who would like to help me structure a politically
neutral modeling process using cybernetic simulations, Lotus Notes,
AutoDesk Cyberspace Modeling, software, and even VRML+ that could
be used by voters to match their own values, models and world-views
to those of their political candidates, local and national, that would
bring some bounded rationality back to their voting behavior?
