and how it might relate to PCP:
--> My background is in fairly interdisciplinary. My Ph.D.
thesis studied implementations of Zeno's paradoxes of movement
in modern fiction, and had as one of its main critical
methodologies a form of memetic theory (constructed from a
melange of Bergson, Dennet, Dawkins and early Extropian texts
I'd become exposed to). Papers that I am currently working on
include a critical exposition of Iser's use of General Systems
theory in his model of the reader-response process (which may
turn into two papers, one dealing more overtly with the systems
theory problems in Iser's texts and the other exploring some of
the ramifications for hypertext and video narrative), an essay
on early proto-memetic theories (using Ficino and Bergson
primarily), and a paper nearing completion on 'Simulation and
the static frame', in which I argue that the structures of
fictional narratives have valuable lessons for those now
engaged in the construction of computerised simulations and
virtual reality enterprises.
I suppose that may work in general could be characterised by
the conviction that narrative structures need to be both firmly
slotted into General Systems and also critically ranged against
it (in the sense, evolved from Iser, that fictional narrative
serves as a balance to prevailing systems, often helping to
evolve them or destroy them). Because of this stance, I find
the evolutionary emphasis of the PCP and meta-transition theory
most interesting. I would like to contribute work in the area
of memetics, evolutionary forms in text and narrative, and that
in general tries to answer the demands of Klir's fourth level
of generalisation -- the gathering of the 'Arts' within the web
of systems theory.
I am willing to do proof-reading and editing work on the
hypertext documents at PCP (I gather that you are in need of
such help) alongside original contributions.
