2 The effects of complexity on modelling by agents

2.4 Bounded rationality and inadequate information


Finally we come to the situation which is most environmentally complex. Here, not only does the agent have inaccurate and insufficient information but also that it does not have the computational resources to search the space of possible models for the optimal one. In other words the model complexity has to be taken into account along with accuracy and specificity in the evaluation of candidate models, for there will be a limit to the complexity of models it can consider. Now we have a three-way trade off to consider. - the nature of this will depend upon the agent's goals (some examples of this are given in
section 4.2 below).
